The Maine Department of Education issued Administrative Letter 8 on Sept. 10, 2010, to all school personnel that immediately prohibits the use of prone restraints or restraints that could impact the ability for a student to freely breathe.

The US Department of Education launched a website, LearningPort.com, which offers free educational and professional development resources to parents and teachers, searchable by topic and by organization.

The site is a compilation of links to learning modules, tool kits, reports, webinars, and other information supplied by different school districts, professional groups and other organizations, who are invited to submit resources directly online.

The US Department of Education launched a new website, bullyinginfo.org, as a resource for federal resources on bullying, according to a release. The new site comes just as students are about to begin a new school year.

On March 13, a newly revised version of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was released, asking parents, schools, educators, and other leaders to work to improve our nation’s public education system in efforts to make the United States the worldwide leader in college completion by 2020. The blueprint for the act also calls for a larger federal role in education.
