In parts of India, it’s extremely difficult for a child with a disability to be admitted to a nonspecialized school. Often, only a sympathetic teacher is responsible for allowing a differently-abled child to join the classroom, but if that teacher leaves, that child is cast adrift again.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission released a report, “Hidden In Plain Sight,” [PDF] an inquiry into disability-related harassment. The report shows that harassment of people with disabilities is common, and includes case studies and recommendations on how to deal with the issue.
