On November 19, 2011, more than 350 community events will be held across the country to finalize the adoption of children in foster care and recognize adoptive families.
Recognition of this day is meant to raise awareness about the 107,000 children who are currently in foster care who are awaiting adoption.

Cedric Wilson, 21, is a former ward of the Austin, TX foster care system who has gone on to lead an independent life and pursue a college education.
Half of foster children end up homeless after they become legal adults, and only one in 100 graduates from college, according to an article in the Austin American-Statesman.

The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) released Nation’s Children 2010, a report which compiles state and national statistics on the health and welfare of U.S. children. The new report revealed that one-fifth of children in the country are living in poverty, which is a 20% increase from 2009. The report indicated a drop in child abuse, neglect, and the number of children in foster care.
