Students in Yankton, SD had the opportunity to attend a summer class designed to expose them to careers in the mental health field.

School officials organized the course for students since the local schools don’t offer anything similar in the regular curriculum. Community professionals came in to provide students with hands-on learning experiences.

Members of Congress staff recently received mental illness training during a workshop at Capitol Hill.

The training taught crisis de-escalation techniques as well as how to identify signs of mental illness and how to obtain medical care for individuals with mental health issues.

National Teacher Day, organized by the National Education Association (NEA), is designed to honor educators and recognize the important roles they play in their students’ lives. The NEA website contains sample activity ideas, posters, and press releases that schools can use to promote the day.
