The Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex in WI has undergone changes including adding special, separate units for vulnerable and/or violent residents in an effort to de-escalate these individuals from stages of agitation, according to a recent article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Seventeen representatives from North Carolina community colleges recently completed CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Certified Instructor training at Central Carolina Community College (CCCC), according to an article on the CCCC website.

The new Instructors include college deans, directors, admissions coordinators, course instructors, and a campus police chief.

A new report from Equip for Equality, “National Review of Restraint Related Deaths of Children and Adults with Disabilities: The Lethal Consequences of Restraint,” examines over 60 restraint-related deaths in the US from 1999-2005.

The Hazelwood School District in Florissant, MO, was awarded $1.4 million in grant funding by the US Department of Education for a Safe Schools-Healthy Students Initiative.

 The funds will go toward district programs focusing on positive behavioral supports and interventions (PBIS), bullying prevention, crisis prevention and intervention training, and more.

Members of Congress staff recently received mental illness training during a workshop at Capitol Hill.

The training taught crisis de-escalation techniques as well as how to identify signs of mental illness and how to obtain medical care for individuals with mental health issues.
